Tamaki 1 Term 3 2013 Class Newsletter

Posted on 11:00 PM by babli panday
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Tamaki 1 students have made a great start to Term Three. It is going to be a busy term with sports, outings and Spec/Trump work due this term. We will also be making some videos for the Maniakalani Film festival and for our Trump folders.  Term 3 information and dates:

Tamaki 1 Staff: Teacher = Kevin, Teacher Aides = Jackie and Crusoe

Topic: Physical Science. Students are working in small teams to discover science ideas. The experiments will include work on gravity, friction, electricity, air, heat, light etc

Trips: Please bring a packed lunch and drink, warm clothes and shoes on our trips.

Museum Trip is on Tuesday 20 August. We will be looking at the Science exhibits.

Basketball Ribbon Day Tuesday 17 September. Supporters welcome 10am – 1.30 pm at “The Trusts Stadium” 65/67 Central Park Dr, Henderson, Auckland.

Swimming on Wednesday: The portable pool is still at Tamaki as no other school wanted it this term. Students who would like to have a lunchtime swim on Friday’s can bring their togs every Friday this term. The pool is warm and the swim is optional.

iPad Pilot Class Progress Report: Students are making fantastic progress using the iPad’s to assist their learning. This Term we are using the iPad’s to study science, write our diaries, and practice brain training and problem solving skills. We are sharing our progress with other classes and teachers.

Homework: Home-School Communication Book, Book Log: Please check your child’s reading log and sign the Home School book every day and add any notes, news or comments.

Late Access: If you are picking up or dropping off students and the Tamaki Campus front doors are locked please park in the side carpark and walk around to the doors at the rear of the classroom block or take your child to the Sommerville School office.

Sick: Sommerville’s new electronic roll is being implemented this term. If your child is going to be away:

Please let the Taxi company know and please let Sommerville or the class know. Sommerville  School Ph 5709787, Class 0220848648 or email kevin@sommervillespecial.school.nz.  The office will phone you to check on the welfare of any students who have not called to explain absences.
Health & PE: Please keep sick students at home. We have had several students sent to school when they are sick. This is not nice for the sick student and they infect other students and staff. Also please look out for nits and head lice. We have more arriving at school. Please check and treat your child’s hair regularly.

Basketball training is on Wednesdays. Students may bring a spare T Shirt to exercise in if they want.

We are adding to our blog to celebrate the learning that is happening in your child’s class. The blogs will also provide a space for you to connect with your child’s school life by finding out more about their learning and give you the opportunity to talk with them about the events and learning that takes place.

Student of the week prize is awarded for outstanding effort and achievement. This award will not be awarded every week.

Regards,

Kevin, Jackie and Crusoe
